EFMA Liaison Committee meet with WHO Europe Regional Director

Representatives from the EFMA Liaison Committee met with Ms Zsuzsanna Jakab, the new WHO regional director.

Dear EFMA members,

I would like to inform you about a recent EFMA meeting at the WHO regional headquarters in Copenhagen. Representatives from the EFMA Liaison Committee met with Ms Zsuzsanna Jakab, the new WHO regional director, who took up her post on the 1 February this year. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss new ways that EFMA and the WHO can cooperate and work together.

The EFMA LC highlighted the importance of physician involvement in WHO policy development and also in raising awareness of health issues in the public. After a full day of meetings with Ms Jakab and WHO/Europe staff the two main priorities for immediate collaboration agreed upon were the important problems of antimicrobial drug resistance, notably the need for information from non- hospital prescribing sectors of health care, and the equally important topic of immunization awareness. The EFMA Liaison Committee agreed to set up workgroups in these areas. If you are interested in joining a workgroup in either antimicrobial drug resistance or immunization awareness, please complete the attached form and send to michelle@ima.org.il before August 15th. After this date you will be contacted to confirm your participation.
