General statistics on doctors in Norway 2016

As of July 2016, 28 730 physicians and 4 146 medical students are members of The Norwegian Medical Association, bringing the total to 32 876 members. The database of The Norwegian Medical Association indicates a number of about 29 700 physicians in Norway, of which about 25 365 are under 67 years of age, which is the general age of retirement in Norway. Out of these 24 368 or 96,1 % are members, and 49,9 % are women (50,3 % women among members). Among physicians under 67 years of age in Norway the mean age is 41,3 years for women and 46,3 years for men, totally 43,8 years. At least 16,9 % have foreign citizenship (at least 4 264), most from Germany (851), Sweden (697), Denmark (508), Poland (180), Russia (145), Serbia (142), Iceland (124), Netherlands (124), Lithuania (111), Hungary (96), Iraq (95), United Kingdom (82), Finland (63), Romania (57) and Bosnia Hercegovina (57).
