Rationale
Occupational health assessments in occupational medicine and occupational health services should be based on known and documented exposure risks with potential health effects. These assessments must align with the Working Environment Act and its regulations, occupational medicine guidelines, and ethical considerations. Examinations should only be conducted when a suitable method has been evaluated by a qualified physician and when the assessment is relevant for preventing or detecting health effects caused by workplace exposure.
Medical assessments related to health certificates for occupations with legally mandated health requirements are not covered by this recommendation.
Refer to the Choosing Wisely recommendations in general practice:
Healthy individuals without symptoms or known risk conditions do not need regular health check-ups but may benefit from conversations to increase health literacy
