Avoid conducting audiometry that is not based on a risk assessment of workplace exposure

22. JULI 2025

Rationale

Audiometry as part of occupational health assessments in occupational medicine and occupational health services should be based on a risk assessment and be relevant for preventing or detecting hearing loss caused by workplace exposure.

Audiometry in occupational health assessments should align with the Working Environment Act and its regulations, occupational medicine guidelines, and ethical considerations.

Audiometry conducted as part of a health certificate examination of workers in occupations with legally mandated health requirements is not covered by this recommendation.
