Avoid ultrasound examinations in pregnant women beyond routine ultrasound unless there is a medical indication

23. MARS 2026

Rationale: According to the Norwegian Directorate of Health’s guidelines for antenatal care, routine ultrasound is recommended for all pregnant women between weeks 11-13 and 17-19 of pregnancy. Further ultrasound examinations are recommended only based on medical indications. Ultrasound exams beyond this in routine antenatal care are not considered good clinical practice and are therefore not eligible for reimbursement.
