Avoid recommending an early doctor’s visit to obtain antibiotics for “wait and see” symptoms when general condition is good

25. JULI 2025

Rationale:

Symptoms of urinary tract infections, sinusitis, eye infections, and ear infections may resolve on their own after a few days. Advise the patient to monitor symptoms for a couple of days before contacting a doctor — as long as the general condition is good, or if the child is over one year old and not considered an “ear child.”

Children under one year of age and “ear children” are usually recommended antibiotics immediately. An “ear child” is a child with three or more acute middle ear infections within six months, or at least four within one year.
